Happy Anniversary, Soke & Kyoshi!

Today is the 34th anniversary of a very special couple, who together prove that it’s possible to be both a lover and a heck of an impressive fighter. Kyoshi Claudine Aubertin is perhaps best known to many of the Jukaido-Kan family as the woman who keeps Soke Charles Bédard going. She has been with him through some of the most difficult moments of his life, and she is constantly by his side today to take care of him while he gives so generously of himself to his students.

I have had the great privilege to spend a few quiet moments with Soke and Kyoshi in a family setting, and was much inspired by devotion for each other. Their deep affection, and their love of their children, are probably the only things that surpass their dedication to their martial arts family. I cannot imagine either one of them without the other. They keep each other on their toes, they nurture their family together, and if you are ever lucky enough to be with the two of them you will see they simply complete one another.

For some time I have wanted to write a few words about the important role Kyoshi plays in Soke’s life, and indeed in Jukaido-Kan. Today is the perfect opportunity to say what an incredible woman she is, and to thank her for sharing her husband with us all throughout their years together. It can’t have been easy!

A martial artist in her own right, Kyoshi is both an incredibly nurturing wife and mother, and a lady you would never want to mess with. She is a woman of grace, who is equally at home on the tatami or making a guest feel welcome. She is down to earth, and has a sharp wit. Of course, it would take such a strong and talented woman to match our Soke!

I hope you will all join me in wishing this delightful couple a very happy anniversary today. And may we celebrate this special day with them many times in the future.
